Abstract

A Newspaper about Edinburgh: a re-assembly of maps, monuments and power structures, of active and meanwhile spaces, of histories and of outlooks. It brings together the work of EAF24 and Voices of Experience, launched and distributed in August 2024..

'The City is an archive of resistances' (Essay by Suzanne Ewing) p2-3
City maps make manifest the infrastructures of civic life that structure experience. Logics of map-making, of exposures and erasures, reveal power dynamics of big ideas, of significant institutions, of authored intentions, of what is mapped, by who and how. Both the physical city and its representations are a repository of urban conditions and aspiration, archives of resistances to change but also resistances to the status quo. This essay reflects on approaches to assembling and re-assembling city memories, communities and overlooked spatial knowledge. It positions the work included in Remnants: How you re-assemble a city (2024).

'Voices of Experience Recommends' (by Suzanne Ewing) p5, 6, 8-9, 19.

'Four Conversations in the City (Voices of Experience conversation extracts) p12-18.
