Abstract

The resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) spectrum of IBr has been recorded in the region 55 500-62 500 cm-1. In contrast to the homonuclear halogens, where Rydberg transitions dominate the REMPI spectrum, transitions to ion-pair states dominate the spectrum of the interhalogen IBr. Pronounced resonance structure caused by coupling between the b'6 Rydberg state and the ion-pair states was observed.
