[Review of] Making Bodies Kosher: The Politics of Reproduction among Haredi Jews in England

Research output: Contribution to journalBook/Film/Article review

Abstract / Description of output

Ben Kasstan’s (2019) monograph Making Bodies Kosher invites us to approach healthcare as a unique borderland for religious minorities in England, exploring how bodily anxieties and sometimes opposing quests for protection emerge. This is a space that requires gate-keeping, negotiation and resistance, especially to protect biological and social reproduction. Whilst viewed as a 'hard to reach' or 'non-compliant' group, this book pushes us to see how this designation may masquerade for ineqitably-designed health services.
