Revisiting PE Teachers’ confidence to teach Dance in Curriculum for Excellence

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract / Description of output

My research has been looking at the constraints and enablers to teacher engeagemtn with policy change and the factors that impact on their teacher agency. I had conducted some research in dance in Scotland 2007 looking at student teacher confidence in dance and in doing so realized that dance was lacking in schools. Little is known about the impact Cfe has had on the provision and position of dance or the factors that impinge teachers decisions t regarding the inclusion of dance in the curriculum. My previous research has looked at teacher enabling of large scale policy but it was the intention of this study to examine the micro climate of one particular activity. Dance was chosen as this is a subject area that previously was identified as lacking in schools and also an area that research identifies as being an activity that demands high levels of agency to teach.
