N2 - Understanding the behavior of air bubbles in aqueous solutions is a significant importance to many industrial applications such as petrochemical refining. A novel method to measure the rigidity of air bubble properties in aqueous solutions was presented. Their rigidity of air bubbles depended on pH of the solutions and surfactant addition. Air bubbles were softer in alkaline solutions than in acidic aqueous solutions. The rigidity of bubbles in sodium oleate solution was an order of magnitude lower than in purified water. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (Glasgow, Scotland 7/10-14/2005).
