N2 - This book commemorates the history and lived experiences of Panabaj, an indigenous Maya Tz’utujil community from Guatemala, that has survived a civil war and a disaster and has turned wounds into knowledge. Despite facing discrimination and limitations in accessing basic services, the people of Panabaj have fought for their rights and their dignity. Inspired by the teachings and practices of their ancestors, while recognising the disaster and war, the book shows that Panabaj has life and will continue to be the home for present and future generations. It shows that it is a place of life for those who seek to connect with the land and preserve their culture. The book is an output of the project ‘Ixchel: building understanding of the physical, cultural and socio-economic drivers of risk in the Guatemalan cordillera’ (2020-2025), funded by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Councils (UKRI GCRF).
