Abstract

An original commission essay on the transatlantic legacy of Robert Burns as an indicative case study of how poetic ideas travel in rhythms, echoes, images and voices which dissipate traditional notions of influence. The chapter also considers Burns's posthumous biographical reputation and how this was conditioned by the poet's own self-presentaiton during his lifetime.
