Abstract / Description of output
The Scottish Academy of Fashion (SAF) is an ambitious project to establish Scotland as a global centre for excellence in fashion related learning and commercially relevant research.
Scotland has world-class education and globally recognised leaders in the fashion industry. It has a niche fashion and textile industry embedded in luxury fashion worldwide. Scotland attracts international talent to fashion-related education.
SAF aims to develop an effective platform to combine these strengths, and capitalise on this potential. With industry projects and a CPD portfolio already underway, SAF is building on the collective strengths in teaching and research in our leading universities to construct and deliver collaborative industry and academic activity in research, knowledge exchange and network building.
I curated the Scottish Academy of Fashion Showcase Exhibition at Inspace Edinburgh University in collaboration with colleagues from Heriot Watt University June 2011. This comprised of an Industry Showcase / static display of three recent SAF collaborations with Industry - Mackintosh, Beggs of Ayr and the Scottish Cashmere Club. The exhibition also featured a display of some of the leading edge Fashion related research undertaken by staff within the academy including Fragrance Emitting Textiles and Garments and a Virtual Catwalk of Digitally Modelled Fashion. The showcase also featured my digitally printed textiles.
Event:
The SAF Showcase comprised of a static exhibition at Inspace open to the public for up to a week, together with a salon show (which i curated and organised )for one evening.
The Showcase was the culmination of a series of Fashion related activities occurring in Scotland over June, from the University and College Fashion Shows, to the Edinburgh Film Festivals Fashion in Film programme.
