Abstract / Description of output

The effects of various irregularities on the seismic behaviour of multi-storey R. C. frames were investigated in a recent research project conducted at NTUA. The geometry of the frames was selected so as to be covered by EC8. The frames were first designed in their prototype scale in accordance with the relevant provisions in EC8, subsequently their 1:5.5-scale models were constructed by observing similitude laws and they were tested on an earthquake simulator. This paper presents an outline of the earthquake simulation testing program and the main experimental results. Some comments regarding the efficiency of the specific design measures included in EC8 are also provided.
