A comparison is made of the European (ECCS) and North American (SSRC) multiple column curve proposals. The difficulties of implementation of the two approaches are discussed with particular reference to Australian conditions. A method is suggested which allows the concept of multiple column curves to be used more flexibly and more easily in design.
