Abstract / Description of output
Songs From The Last Page is a songwriting and performance project created by composer Gareth Williams, where the final lines of novels and stories are repurposed to become a collection of new songs scored for voice, piano, violin and cello. The collection was written and toured extensively during 2022 as part of the National Event Scotland project, 'The Year of Stories'.
With funding from Creative Scotland (£12,000), an album of 11 of these songs was recorded and produced by Williams, and released through GloMusic Records in August 2023. The songs have been broadcast on over 50 Radio stations worldwide, and featured and discussed on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster. To accompany the release, there were live performances at Dundee Rep Theatre, the Lemon Tree Theatre, Aberdeen, and the Old Hairdressers, Glasgow.
Songs from the Last Page was also part of the 'Made in Scotland' Showcase at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023, with a highly acclaimed week-long residency at the Scottish Story Telling Centre. (Funding from Made in Scotland of £11,000)
A full press pack containing features and reviews is included, along with a link to the album and sleeve notes.
