Abstract

Informal settlements and historical buildings often do not comply with local code requirements. These buildings face a high risk of large and/or multiple-fires which cause significant damage to people, place and property. Firefighting interventions for these buildings and settlements involves many social, economic, and political contexts, which are more complicated compared to other types of formalized and contemporary building projects. Thus, the fire safety of informal settlements and historical buildings still remain as global challenges.
