Abstract / Description of output
The trajectory of the Algerian model of governance in the 2011 Arab uprisings regional political context illustrates the resilience of a specific authoritarian system, legacy of the conflicts of the 1990s. This pseudo-democratic system grounded on the oil rent, on networks of social and political patronage, and on the repressive apparatus, maintains an authoritarian equilibrium that enabled the regime to survive the social mobilizations of the Arab uprisings but that remains fragile due to its internal dynamics.
