Abstract / Description of output
Practitioners thinking about materials and their impact is not a new phenomenon, the 19th century designer William Morris promoted a form of ‘ecosocialism’ calling for a focus on durability and respect for materials and the preservation of the knowledge gained from traditional ways of making. This approach is now a vital one for the fashion and textile industries around the world.
This presentation will take the form of a conversation between the co-presenters as they examine the changing role textiles designers have in relation to producing commercial sustainable design as well as exploring the opportunities alternative craft practices and processes have to offer.
