Abstract

In the rehabilitation of reinforced concrete (RC) infrastructures, external strengthening by bonding FRP sheet is widely applied. In this study, the fatigue durability of bridge slabs strengthened with aramid fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP) and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets is investigated by fatigue tests using the wheel running machine. Strengthening performance is evaluated by comparing the lifespan of the strengthened slabs obtained experimentally with that of the unstrengthened slabs, which can be acquired theoretically from relevant S-N relations. Generally, significant extension of lifespan as results of the strengthening by both AFRP and CFRP can be confirmed.
