Synoptic Gospels

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter discusses ecological interpretation of the Synoptic Gospels. It is noted that, in spite of the importance of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospels for Christian ethical thought, this teaching plays a relatively low profile in ecotheology. The role of the kingdom of God in Jesus’ teaching is examined, especially its potential for ecotheology. The kingdom’s apocalyptic worldview, however, is a sticking point. Looking at some of the hermeneutical options, along with a survey of the main Synoptic texts, the chapter suggests a way forward.
