Abstract
The aim of this article is to draw certain linguistic differences which underpin face-to-face interaction of a same discourse community about a same topic, in both L1 and L2. To this end, an analysis will be made of the transcriptions of the interactions of four focus groups (cf. Barbour & Kitzinger, 1999) in L1 and L2 involving member of the same discourse community. The study extracts and classifies the adjectives which are used by the participants, according to the subsystem of Appreciation (Marting & Rose, 2003). It is suggested that a discourse community may take on different identities when it comes to expressing opinions in each of these two languages.
