Abstract
The article considers the ambivalence towards the artist's studio from a feminist perspective in art. In thinking the persistence of the myth of the studio, the argument looks at changes in artistic labour and the ideologies framing the studio as (gendered, racialised and, above all, classed) space. The analysis revisits a key approach from feminist art history while proposing also to see the studio from a contemporary, 21st-perspective that acknowedges the encroachment of capital on office/work space for writing and creating and the impact of these development on women in particular. The article was written in English and appears also in German translation.
