Abstract / Description of output

A numerical investigation of the 3D structural responses of a prototype steel-composite structure under travelling fires will be presented, with an emphasis on considering the coupling effect of fire protection and travelling fire spread rates in performance-based structural design. Parametric studies on various combinations of fire protection and travelling fire spread rates (i.e. 0.5 mm/s, 2.5 mm/ s, and 12.5 mm/s) were carried out. Different thicknesses of fire protection (i.e. mineral fibre spray) were designed to deliver equivalent FRR (i.e. R30, R60, R90, R120, and R180) for structural components based on Eurocodes. For steel-composite structures, the global structural response could be fundamentally changed due to different schemes of fire protection, in combination with various FRR and fire spread rates.
