Born in Madras Province, India, the philosopher, psychologist and parapsychologist K. Ramakrishna Rao credits his interest in psychic phenomena to a “culturally driven openness to the possibility of their existence” (p. 1). The topic of his first research publication, in 1955, “Vedanta and the modus operandi of paranormal condition”, illustrates how he sought to combine Eastern and Western thought.
