Abstract / Description of output

The research contained within this book seeks to enhance our understanding of school leaders’ actions as they work to enact a socially just school culture and examines whether this work is enhanced or diminished by the context in which the school is placed. The unique nature of this research means that the studies took place in numerous countries across the globe in a variety of contexts, utilising the same research protocols, yielding rich stories of successes and challenges with the enactment of social justice leadership. Chapter 1 begins with an exploration of the international emphasis that has been placed on educational leadership to deliver improved services to meet the needs of society. An overview of social justice leadership is then presented that includes an outline of the International School Leadership Development Network (ISLDN) from which this body of work emanates. The chapter then lays down the foundations for the importance of context in the enactment of social justice. A brief outline of each chapter is also provided to aid the reader with navigating the volume of work that follows the introductory chapter.
