Abstract

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) manipulate spatial data from a variety of data formats. The widely adopted vector-topological format retains the topological relationships between geographical features and is typically used in a range of geographical data analyses. There are a number of characteristics of the format, however, that cause difficulties in the input, manipulation and processing of the data. This paper reports on the performance of a prototype parallel data partitioning algorithm for the input of vector-topological data to parallel processes.
