Abstract

Attendance and participation at the ICD conference 'The Language of Art and Music: An International Symposium on the Potential for Artistic Expression to Cross Cultural Barriers', Berlin, February 17th - 20th, 2011. The conference explored the potential for art and music to provide a neutral platform for cultural exchange. My research plan focuses on the possible applications of abstract painting as a visual interpretation of sound and involves collaborations with musicians, institutions and audiences from backgrounds and cultures very different to mine. Conference topics included studies on international arts festivals similar to those in which my collaborations are presented and discussions about open platform forums such as vimeo and myspace as places for cultural exchange.
