Abstract / Description of output

The Magazine is an experimental novel in 12 books. Written and illustrated by Alan Mason,it is designed by Barrie Tullett and published by Caseroom Press. To date two books of the sequence have been published. The third is in press. The Magazine takes the Victorian illustrated compendium, revisits the form in depth and in over a 1000 pages and extends its possibilities. It is designed to be a palimpsest that simultaneously reflects the sensibilities of a past age while acknowledging the liberties the text and illustrations take with them. It is an extended - and extensive -exploration of the serial form in that its narratives evolve over the years and in 12 distinct publications.
