Abstract

On the 17th – 19th June the Binks Hub and the Ripple Project collaborated on this exhibition at the Scottish Parliament, which was sponsored by Sarah Boyack (MSP). It was the third exhibition of artworks created by the community that we have curated together, after earlier iterations at the Ripple Project and the Dovecot Studios. This time the emphasis was on engaging policy-makers with community members’ three key demands for the future of their area:
1.More green spaces, and improved management of the greenery and green space in the local area;
2.Increased investment in community and civic spaces in the local area;
3.The lived experiences and wisdom of community members to placed at the heart of policy.
Over the three days of the exhibition we engaged with MSPs and advisors from all the parties represented in the parliament and discussed ways in which these demands could be mainstreamed in national policies.
To learn more about the project, and explore these demands in greater detail, please read the policy book 'Alternative Futures: Who Decides? The Honest Inclusion of Community Voices in Decision-Making' that we produced together (linked to this entry).
