Abstract / Description of output
The author takes the reader through her academic career particularly highlighting the importance of serendipity and resilience for completing her PhD and persisting in the academic circles. Drawing on self-experience, the chapter presents a realistic picture of the often-mystified academic life by discussing some of the key challenges that an early career researcher is likely to face. The purpose is, by no means, to discourage young, bright and talented researchers from pursuing their academic lives, but to help them see how unpredicted and oftentimes though (and why not say it - a bit cruel) our journeys to making a scholarly impact can be. The author concludes on the optimistic note suggesting and explaining why “The Road Taken” by her fifteen years ago was the right one and the one she never regretted taking.
