Abstract
Journeying to the Sacred Mosque in Mecca is one of the defining moments of Muslim life. Many only find the means and opportunity to do so in their latter years. Professor Aziz Sheikh and Dr Sangeeta Dhami consider some of the spiritual, social and physical benefits of the pilgrimage to Mecca and review the potential risks healthcare professionals need to be aware of as many can be mitigated with appropriate preparation.
