Abstract

The article deals with the term Ballvollen in court records in Finnmark, Northern Norway, from the time period 1621-5. The term occurs in witch trials which took place when the Scotsman John Cunningham was District Governor. Cunningham is influenced from the witch trials in Scotland where witches are accused at meeting the Devil on the Ball Ley. This and some other terms show how ideas on demonology are transferred from a Scottish to a Norwegian context.
