Abstract / Description of output

This report provides an analysis of the varied landscape of alternative education provision (AEP) in the UK. The ESRC-funded Excluded Lives project attempts to illuminate some of the contextual factors that may contribute to the very different rates of school exclusion in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. AEP is likely to be an important factor in determining these rates as it offers a substitutefor, or supplement to, ‘mainstream’ education for those students who have been excluded, or who are at risk of exclusion, from the mainstream classroom.
