Abstract

This article offers an edition of the paratextual material transmitted with Sidonius’ collection of poems (carm. 1-24). These paratexts have not been fully included in modern critical editions, which have often deviated arbitrarily and misleadingly from the transmitted titles. The article then highlights some of the details and implications of the paratexts for our understanding of the collection’s formation and the individual poems. There is a focus throughout on the question of whether and to what extent paratexts may go back to the author or a very early editor.
