Abstract / Description of output
Training load is a multidimensional construct, which reflects the amount of physical training that an athlete completes or experiences. It is used to quantify an exercise stimulus based on its nature, frequency, volume and intensity (Impellizzeri et al., 2005, 2019). Within an athlete monitoring context, the term ‘training load’ is a construct label assigned to the above constitutive definition. This should not be confused with the mechanical definition of ‘load’. Accordingly, training load can incorporate a variety of operational definitions and can be measured in numerous ways.
