Abstract

Transmissive liquid crystal microdisplays (T-LCMs) take the concept of the active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) and reduce it to the size of a postage-stamp or smaller. The principle of operation of T-LCMs is very similar to that of conventional AMLCDs as covered in detail elsewhere in this handbook. In this chapter, we focus on the differences between regular-sized AMLCDs and T-LCMs and the differences between T-LCMs and reflective LCOS microdisplays.
