Abstract
This report presents the findings of research, funded by the Blue Cross, to understand current challenges faced by UK pet owners. The research included a national survey of pet owners and qualitative interviews with Blue Cross Service users. Findings indicate a range of pet owner challenges relating to pet health and behaviour, financial and contextual factors, psychological effects of pet care challenges, and barriers to help-seeking. The results will help organisations to put in place support for people and their pets. The findings also contribute to international research on the importance of companion animals for human wellbeing.
