Abstract
Improved understanding of the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis in dogs1 has led to better treatment plans, including skin barrier repair and new targeted treatments for managing allergic itch and inflammation. Here we review and update the etiological rationale behind current recommendations for the management of atopic dermatitis, emphasizing a multimodal approach, and discuss how improved understanding of its complex etiology may affect future treatment.
