Abstract / Description of output
Scottish society of artists group show Artists which interrogates, challenges, comments and engages creatively with the concept of ‘Utopia’. The idea of Utopia may be older than Thomas More’s famous book, but what could actually be gained from the concept, or possibly lost? A personal utopia would surely be as individual as each of our personal imagination. Is this the difficulty with any proposed Utopian society? The power of the individual would make the construct a contradiction. However, there is room in Art for the individual to create their own Utopia. Works will be exhibited at Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries, and it is planned that a proportion of the exhibition will be toured to Kirkcudbright Galleries.Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries Preview: Saturday 31 August 2019, 2-4pm Exhibition: 31 August – 2 November 2019 Kirkcudbright Galleries: Exhibition: December 2019 – March 2020 Gracefield Arts Centre is a hub for creativity and the arts in Dumfries & Galloway and together with its sister organisation in Kirkcudbright, the newly opened Kirkcudbright Galleries, aim to promote the best in visual art from home-grown talent and showcase exhibitions of historical and contemporary art from the UK and abroad.
