Abstract
Z.A.M is an ongoing series of A5 ‘zines’ that are drawn and printed by Edinburgh based artist John Brown and London based artist Matt Swan.
Initially started as a joke, to try and make a zine every month (hence the title) each issue is based on a very simple starting point in terms of subject and method.
The look of the publications are based primarily on the content of the drawings rather than anything tricky happening with the format.
The series has grown since 2014 to include, so far, around 15 titles ranging form Battling Knights to Zoo Gardens.
Each publication has between 16 and 28 pages either full colour or black and white. The pages are divided equally between the two artists so sometimes there is a confrontational face-off between the illustrations.
The zines have been shown in the Fruitmarket galley Edinburgh, the Baltic Centre Newcastle, Goodpress, Glasgow and other zine/artist book fairs in London.
