Abstract

Django Girls is a non-profit organization that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support. As a member of the Django Girls, I co-organised with Natalia Avlona (independent reseacher), two one-day programming workshops for women in Athens. The scope of the workshops was to empower women in a rather male-dominated world; that of programming. Both workshops were approved and funded by the Python Software Foundation (¢2500). The workshops attracted major interest from local media for their innovative learning practices and inclusion of women in digital literacy. Since June 2015, we have set up a Python group for women i.e. PyLadies Athens.
