Abstract

The Scottish Government has committed to make restorative justice widely available across Scotland by 2023 and has published an action plan to support this. At present, the availability of restorative justice in Scotland is still relatively limited and variable across the country. This workshop was intended to support professionals in criminal justice social work and community justice to design, plan and implement restorative justice services across Scotland. Contributors had extensive local and international expertise regarding the design and implementation of restorative justice. The morning session focused on the possibilities for the design and implementation of restorative justice, international evidence on effectively implementing restorative justice, and exploring the potentials and challenges for implementing restorative justice in Scotland. The afternoon session was highly interactive, drawing on design thinking and restorative practices to help participants work through the design of restorative justice services.
