Abstract

This intensive course was designed for advanced PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the natural sciences who want to develop a solid understanding of the role of key greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the Earth system and the processes that govern their dynamics in the atmosphere, ocean and biosphere. The residential course with 24 participants was based at the University of Edinburgh and comprised a combination of lectures, practical exercise, seminars and field/laboratory work. The Summer School was organised as part of the Greenhouse Gases Emissions and Feedback Programme, a consortium of three research projects aimed at quantifying GHG fluxes in the terrestrial biosphere (GREENHOUSE), the atmosphere (GAUGE) and the ocean (RAGNARoCC), funded by the UK's Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The Summer School was also supported financially by the EU ClimMani COST action.
