Feminist festival targeted for 'banning trans women'

Press/Media: Expert Comment

Description

Sisters Uncut, a feminist anti-domestic violence direct action group, called for venues not to host Audacious Women Festival (AWF) events because of its "trans and non-binary exclusionary stance". It said that the festival's definition of women was offensive and insensitive. Festival organisers said that they had followed Equality and Human Rights Commission guidelines on providing single-sex spaces "so these workshops are open to all women, including trans people with a gender recognition certif-icate or who are visually and for all practical purposes indistinguishable from other women".
