Biography

Dr Stokes is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and Deputy Head of the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems at The University of Edinburgh. He is Deputy Director of the CDT in Robotics and Autonomous Systems in the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics. He is Director of the Soft Systems Group, an interdisciplinary research laboratory of around 20 researchers. He is the Programme Director for MSc Electronics in The School of Engineering. He holds degrees in engineering, biomedical science, and chemistry. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the UK-RAS Network, a member of the OGTC Academic Panel, and an Associate Editor for IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters. Before joining the faculty at Edinburgh he was a Fellow in the George M. Whitesides group at Harvard University. He is an Emeritus Member of The Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Young Academy of Scotland. Dr Stokes’s research interests include: robotics, physical chemistry, electrical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, optics, proteomics, and cell biology.
