Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Trinity College Dublin |
Carole Jones studied English at BA and MA levels at Goldsmiths College, University of London and completed her PhD at Trinity College Dublin. She has taught at various institutions in Britain and Ireland including Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Goldsmiths College, and on the Humanities Programme at Imperial College London. She has also worked for the national distance learning organisations in both Britain and Ireland, the Open University and Oscail.
Carole's principle research areas are gender and sexuality in contemporary Scottish fiction, and her work has engaged in particular with the representations of masculinity. Disappearing Men explores the relationship of both men and women with masculinity in recent Scottish writing and the implications for conceptualising subjectivity and sexual and national identity. Her interests cover critical issues in contemporary British and Irish fiction more generally, and LGBT and queer writing. She is currently researching into postfeminism and neoliberal femininities in contemporary Scottish women's writing, and LGBT and queer representations in the Scottish context.
