Since 2007 I have been based at the Institute of Geography in the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh.  I am a member of the Centre for Research on Environment, Society and Health (CRESH): a collaboration between the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Before joining CRESH I gained an MSc in Geographical Information Science at the University of Edinburgh (2006-2007), and a PhD in marine fisheries ecology from the University of Bangor (2002-2006).

Research Interests

I am a health geographer and my research focusses on the spatial determinants of health and health-related behaviours. I am interested in how the environments in which we live, work and play can influence our health, for better or for worse.  I am particularly interested in whether natural environments are good for us, why this might be, and whether the benefits are felt equally by all societal groups.
