Current Research Interests

I am a theorist and historian of queer visual culture. My specialist field in film studies, with a particular focus on experimental cinema and artists' film and video. I am the Project Leader of a three year pan-European project called 'Cruising the Seventies: Unearthing Pre-HIV/AIDS Queer Sexual Cultures' (CRUSEV, http://www.crusev.ed.ac.uk), funded by HERA and the European Commission, which has research teams in Germany, Poland, Spain, and the UK. Before taking up my position at the University of Edinburgh, I was the coordinator of postgraduate studies at The Glasgow School of Art (2008-2012). Prior to this, I was a senior lecturer in screen studies at the University of Bristol (2005-2008).
