Current Research Interests

My research and writing considers the geographical dimensions of a series of intersecting themes: landscape, place, nature, fieldwork, ecology, memory, mobility, biography and the life of the senses.

In my work, I approach these themes variously, through site-specific studies, archival scholarship, theoretically informed commentaries, methodological experiments, creative writing and collaborative practice.

Collaborative Activity

I enjoy interdisciplinary research, and collaborative activities with artists, scientists, creative practitioners, producers, makers, writers and campaigners.

As a supervisor of doctoral researchers, I currently collaborate with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the Forestry Commission (Scotland), and the Royal Geographical Society.

In the past I have supervised PhD students in collaborative arrangements with Glasgow Museums/Glasgow Life, the Royal Society and the Conservation Volunteers.
