Biography

I completed my PhD in the departments of European Studies and the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis (ASCA) at the University of Amsterdam in 2014. My research - published as Europeanising Spaces in Paris, c. 1947-1962 (Liverpool University Press, 2016) - examined the ways in which ideas about Europe and Europeanness were articulated and contested in politics, culture, and the Parisian urban landscape. I have also worked on the history of North African migration to France engaging with theories of social justice and recognition.

My research approach combines archive-based historical work with an engagement with political, social and cultural theory. Broad research interests include 20th century French, European, and European colonial history.

I am currently a postdoctoral fellow on the European Research Council Starting Grant project entitled: Illuminating the 'Grey Zone': Addressing Complex Complicity in Human Rights Violations.
