Itandehui Jansen studied film directing at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam. Her graduation film, Un Nave per Tornare, screened at the International Documentary FEstival Amsterdam (IDFA). She studied a Postgraduate Programme in Screenwriting and Directing Drama at the Binger Film Institute of the Amsterdam University of Arts, taught by among others Gyula Gazdag, Ken Dancyger, Judith Weston and Mark Travis. She has directed several documentaries, which screened at international festivals such as the Cork international Film Festival, the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival and Washington DC Short. Her work has been presented at the Smithsonian, The Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne and the Musee Quai Branly. Her short films have won several international awards, among others the Special Jury Award at the International Viña del Mar Film Festival 2012 and the Award for Best Short Film at the Bluestocking Film Series 2015. Her recent film In Times of Rain won the award for Best Emerging Feature at the Oaxaca FilmFest, and the award for Best Feature Drama at the Earth Day Film Festival in California, among others. She has worked as a film lecturer in different universities and completed her PhD at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts, Leiden University in the Netherlands. Itandehui is particularly interested in representations of diversity in film. Her practice-based research explores questions of identity, cultural heritage and human connections to and interactions with landscape. She is also interested in the synergy between narrative fiction and documentary.
