Ioannis Papastathopoulos was born in Athens, Greece. He received his undergraduate training in Statistics and Insurance Mathematics at the University of Piraeus, his MSc and PhD from Lancaster University under Prof. Jonathan Tawn and spent two years as a Brunel Research Fellow in Statistics at the University of Bristol. His interests are in extreme value theory, methods and its applications. More recent interests include the development of graphical models for dimension reduction and dependence estimation of multivariate and spatial extremes.
