STACK is an online assessment system for mathematics and STEM more generally.
The key features are that (1) questions are generated in a structured random way; (2) students must enter a mathematical expression as their answer; (3) STACK establishes objective mathematical properties such as algebraic equivalence with a correct answer and is capable of generating specific feedback. STACK stores all data for later analysis. A demonstration system is available at http://stack.maths.ed.ac.uk/demo/ STACK is widely used in HE and has been the subject of major national projects (https://abacus.aalto.fi/) and is being used by at least one commercial publisher (www.PhysicsCurriculum.com) as the basis of an online business.

STACK is an online assessment system which automatically assesses students' answers to mathematical questions. The system generates random questions for students and then provides feedback in a way educational research has found to be effective in improving their education. STACK goes along way beyond "multiple choice" in requiring students to type in their final answer as a mathematical expression. They cannot eliminate choices, and the opportunity to guess is reduced.
