Abstract

Governance has become a key concept in policy making and academic debates across the social sciences. While no agreed definition exists, many authors associate governance with new processes of governing that transcend the nation‐state. The concept is generally associated with reconfigurations in the exercise of authority and influence; from state to private actors, from formal to informal institutions, from the national to the transnational sphere, and from hierarchical forms of organization to networks.
